5th Australasian Drug Strategy Conference (8-10 March 2010)

The Australasian Drug Strategy Conference (ADSC) was first held in 1999 and is now recognised as Australasia’s pre-eminent law enforcement drug strategy conference. Being held every two to three years, the conference attracts hundreds of delegates and international speakers.

The 5th Australasian Drug Strategy Conference (5th ADSC) is being held from 8th to 11th March, 2010 at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre and will deal with how alcohol and drugs have a significant and dramatic impact across all aspects of the community.

This 5th ADSC conference will provide an important opportunity to hear and learn from a full range of law enforcement, justice, customs, health, academic and community agencies. Naturally, this will also be an opportunity for all Australasian Agencies to showcase their latest innovations.

The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and Other Drugs (APSAD) is pleased to announce that the call for abstracts for their 2009 conference is now open!

This conference, being held at the Darwin Convention Centre from Sunday 1 - Wednesday 4 November 2009, will feature an exciting program which includes international and national speakers, focussing on new treatment, prevention and policy in the areas of drugs and alcohol research. The conference will include local issues and content relevant to the region, but will also offer a range of presentations and workshops that have international relevance. Featuring original work from the field, the conference program will, for the first time, encourage alternative presentation styles such as film, yarning circles and artwork whilst maintaining conventional modes of presentation such as oral and poster presentations, participatory workshops and debates/discussions.

The scientific program committee are calling for abstracts which address all aspects of licit and illicit drug use/misuse and we encourage your involvement. Information is available on the conference website. Alternatively please contact the conference manager.

IHRA’s 20th International Conference on Harm Reduction (19-23 Apr 2009)

IHRA’s harm reduction conferences have been held around the world each year since 1990, and the next event in this highly successful series takes place in Bangkok, Thailand. The theme for this event will be Harm Reduction and Human Rights.

3rd Annual Conference of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (2-3 Mar 2009)

This conference will take place at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna, 2-3 March 2009. It will discuss research issues of relevance to policy discussions at the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on drugs.

The conference will be followed by two special workshops on 4th March 2009:

1. A workshop on illicit drug harm indices.

2. A workshop on drug policy modelling.

2008 National Drug Trends Conference (23 Nov 2008)

What’s new in illicit drug use in Australia?
The National Drug Trends Conference will present recent findings in illicit drug use, markets and related harms across Australia. Convened by Australia’s largest drug monitoring systems, the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) and the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS), the one day conference will include the first release of the 2008 findings, in addition to discussion of emerging trends in illicit drug use and related issues in Australia.

The 4th International Drugs and Young People Conference - Focusing on Solutions – The Way Forward (2003)

The Australian Drug Foundation and the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand jointly hosted the event in Wellington. Key issues discussed included party drugs, drug education, alcohol advertising, cannabis intervention programs, youth, Indigenous and cross-cultural drug use and residential treatment.
