One of the needs identified at last year’s Pacific Spirit workshop was that “further workforce development opportunities such as training courses be considered to support the Pacific Islands workforce". As a means of identifying the nature of this need and providing a basis for development Target Education and Management Consultants undertook a review of: The “workforce development opportunities” i.e. education and training programmes
currently available to the Pacific practitioners who work in alcohol-related areas; The experience of Pacific graduate students who have undertaken these programmes; The effectiveness of these programmes in terms of how they equipped participants for their work with Pacific people. Online version only. |

The review was to address the following questions - what are the education and training needs of Pacific people in this area; how are the current mainstream programmes meeting those needs; what are the needs of the sector, and how will those needs change in the next few years. The findings were then to be distilled and analysed in order to develop substantiated recommendations that will inform strategies to develop education and training programmes that - better meet the learning needs and preferences of Pacific participants; better equip those participants to serve the needs of their Pacific communities on graduation; more broadly, fill the skills gap and develop increased capability within the Pacific alcohol and drug workforce.
