ALAC's View on Liquor Ban Bylaws

Bans alone do not encourage moderate drinking. Nor do they reduce the number of people drinking to intoxication levels.

Nor are they a solution to youth12-24 years of age. drinking.

It has always been illegal for anyone under 18 years of age to consume or possess alcohol in a public place, and this is still so.

Bans may also displace problems from the ban area to the margins of the ban.

Consistency in implementing liquor bans is important and bans appear to be as effective as the level of enforcement in place.
