Penalties  
<BR>The penalties for breaking the law have doubled and new infringement offences have been introduced. They depend on whether you are an underage person (under 18), work in a licensed premise and sell alcohol to an underage person or have bought alcohol for an underage person.<br><br><BR><STRONG>Under 18</STRONG><UL><LI>Offence: buying alcohol<BR>Penalty: infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $200</LI><LI>Offence: being in a restricted or supervised area of a licensed premise (without a parent or legal guardian)<BR>Penalty: Infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $2000</LI><LI>Offence: drinking in a public place or in possession of alcohol in a public place (without a parent or legal guardian)<BR>Penalty: infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $300</LI></UL><STRONG>Buying alcohol for an underage person</STRONG><UL><LI>Offence: purchasing or acquiring alcohol on or from a licensed premise with the purpose of supplying it to someone under 18<BR>Penalty: a fine of up to $

The penalties for breaking the law have doubled and new infringement offences have been introduced. They depend on whether you are an underage person (under 18), work in a licensed premise and sell alcohol to an underage person or have bought alcohol for an underage person.


Under 18
  • Offence: buying alcohol
    Penalty: infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $200
  • Offence: being in a restricted or supervised area of a licensed premise (without a parent or legal guardian)
    Penalty: Infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $2000
  • Offence: drinking in a public place or in possession of alcohol in a public place (without a parent or legal guardian)
    Penalty: infringement fee of $200 or a fine of up to $300
Buying alcohol for an underage person
  • Offence: purchasing or acquiring alcohol on or from a licensed premise with the purpose of supplying it to someone under 18
    Penalty: a fine of up to $2000
Using someone else's ID
  • Offence: if you use someone else's ID to buy alcohol, you are committing fraud which carries heavy penalties. 
Licensed premise
  • Offence: selling or supplying alcohol to an underage person
    Penalty: licensee - a fine of up to $10,000, suspension of licence up to 7 days, or both
    Manager - a fine of up to $10,000
    Staff - a fine of up to $2000
  • Offence: permitting someone under 18 to be in a restricted or supervised area of a licensed premise (without a parent or legal guardian)
    Penalty: a licensee or manager can be fined up to $2000
  • Offence: sale or supply of alcohol to an intoxicated person or allowing a person to become intoxicated
    Penalty: licensee or manager - a fine of up to $10,000
    Staff - a fine of up to $2000
